Quantum mechanics in the sky: How the smallest and largest scales are related ~ Dr Chris Byrnes (University of Sussex)
Our leading theory of the early universe predicts that all large structures in the universe were generated by (microscopic) quantum mechanical perturbations, shortly after the big bang. There is increasing observational support for this remarkable theory, most recently from the Planck satellite in 2014. I will describe the key concepts behind this theory and how we are able to test it.
