The BAA produce a very good publication "Introduction to DSLR Astrophotography" which takes you through the various stages from a stand alone DSLR image to using a DSLR with a fully fledged guided scope.  The cost for this publication is £7.50.

FITS Liberator  ~ A free software package written by the Hubble team (http://www.spacetelescope.org/projects/fits_liberator/download_v301/) that allows you to manipulate FITS images and gives step by step guidance on photo finishing in PhotoShop or similar to produce stunnning images (http://www.spacetelescope.org/projects/fits_liberator/stepbystep/)
